Hello to all!!

Before getting to buisiness I wanted to send out a BIENVENIDOS to our new members:

* Rubia Boricua
* Diana
* Jean

A big abrazo (hug) from me to you!! I hope you learn lots and have fun at the same time!

I was thinking that for our first meetup we could get together at one of the restaurants around town. I know some of you have gone to them, I haven't unfortunately, but what better way to get to know each other than some good old comfort food!

I'm usually available in the evenings and most weekends. Please let me know what would work for you all. (Amy I know you are probably playing by ear and by the time we organize this you will have your sweet child, so I hope that you will be able to join us soon after! :) )

I"m very excited to also share that while at the supermarket (Kroeger) this evening I found my favorite Puerto Rican food: Empanadillas de Pizza (Kikuet brand) and other things like Alcapurrias, Pasteles and Sorullos. I've placed a picture in the Photos section with my happiness with my Empanadillas. :) I will explain what these are for those who don't know soon. I plan on making a little database with translations of our popular foods. Basically (with the exception of Pasteles) these are delicious fried foods! :)

Anyway, I hope you all have a great weekend, and please let me know when you would like to have our restaurant meeting!

Sincerely,
Kat

hi, Kat,

i'm only available on weekends, specifically Saturday afternoons, Sunday mornings and Sunday afternoons/evenings

i do go out of town some weekends -- i'll be gone the first weekend in May [5/2-3ish], May 17-18, Memorial Day weekend, and June 6-8

i'll be around the other weekends, so far

what a great idea to explain the dishes!

I think weekends are probably best for many, so let's do that.

How about we plan for either this Sunday or next Saturday?

Would that work with everyone???

Let me know!

i'll be out of town this weekend.

do any of y'all like to camp out? i've got a campsite reserved at McKinney Falls State Park in AUstin, near the Austin airport, the following weekend, May 10-11. i have some extra tents. you would need some kind of pad or cot -- like a chaise lounge pad -- to sleep on. bring your own sheets/blankets. we'll have water and electricity

we could cook Puerto Rican outside!

there are some great music events in Austin that weekend. on Sat. night a group from Zimbabwe called Rattletree Marimba is playing. on Sunday afternoon/evening there's the Full Moon Barn Dance, put on by Leeanne Atherton, a local long-time Austin musician and hostess with the mostess in her big backyard. $10 to get in, plus bring a dish for dinner to share

and some hiking trails in the park, like 2-3 miles are the ones i plan on doing. McFalls also has a small waterfall

my ideal weekend! except there may still be a burn ban there

if you guys are not campers, maybe sometime we can cook a group meal outside at one of the Houston parks?
